Between Soil and Sky is the 2024 CD release by devoted experimentalist, PJ Dorsey (Tarotplane), and his second release with Noir Age. A curated embodiment of an amphibious reality — blending elements of earthly guitar, disquieting tape loops and an array of celestial synths. The first impression presents a question: “What is this middle ground we occupy between here and there?” As the listener is pulled into a meditative vastness, the importance of seeking an answer lessens.
There is a recurring sense of intuition in Dorsey’s work that transcends logic. Characteristic of an artist known for modernizing his sound using archaic techniques. Something for the transcendentalists, one could say.
