“In January 2018, kosmische new-New-Age duo Starbirthed offered up their first album-length collection of deep-space psalms under the title The Dweller on the Threshold. An early and enduring fan favorite, the limited edition silver-sparkle cassette presented five wordless improvisations recorded at the Portland, Maine healing center Present Moment as meditations on the mythology and modern archaeology of Saturn, and its 100 copies disappeared from circulation completely over the next few months. Now, following a recent fan vote, Dweller has been selected for resurrection, rising from the depths of spent frankincense dust to appear in vinyl form for a one-time art edition pressing of 100 copies. Specially remastered for vinyl and lacquer-cut by Carl Saff, the higher fidelity offered by the vinyl medium shines a brighter light into the dusky corners of this alternately wonder-filled and deep, dark album, with synth, strings, and breath commingling in unified cosmic expression. As with the Cassini mission that inspired the music, the album attempts to explore the planet from every angle possible, melding science and folklore into compelling and expressive instrumental narratives. The story climaxes late in the closing of final track “In the Rings pt.2″ with sounds representing the Cassini spacecraft’s final death dive through Saturn’s atmosphere–a moment so highly charged it nearly leaps out of the groove–before raining down a final echoing storm of cosmic debris.”
