“Much has already been said about Rock and the welcome our nation has given it; nevertheless, all were surprised at how strongly this “ritmo tuvo” took root in our youth.
The tour of Bill Haley and His Comets in April 1960 was an important part of the insemination of the Mexican “rockanrolero” scene. Many bands took to covering Haley’s numbers while others discovered and emulated America’s crazer rocker, Gene Vincent. Others favorited an approach influenced by Neil Sedaka and Paul Anka; we have chosen to leave these artists out of this collection, since Mexico is already well famed for it’s many beautiful & interesting ballads. Much music got crazier as the era did too, as you will see from listening to this collection”
From the liner notes. Originally compiled & released on Santo Records in 1987.
Torn Light made some fan-club copies of this release purely out of LOVE for obscure 45s. Good luck owning these at all, let alone in the midwest – here’s a tape to cure the illness. Great surf/garage/rock singles from 1960s Mexico!!!
