Borbetomagus & Voice Crack ‎– Asbestos Shake

“Throughout the ’80s this New York trio created some of the most abrasive noise music created via the trio of two saxophones and guitar. Their relationship to avant-garde and free jazz music may seem hostile, although they remain debatably the true heirs to the inventions of both John Cage and Albert Ayler. In fact, their sound sits closer to the work of European free improvisation artists Peter Brotzmann, AMM, and Evan Parker, particularly the blistering proto-noise recordings Machine Gun and AMMusic, than to American jazz and experimental music. Although somehow when listening to this recording the explosive trio sounds distinctively close to the minimalist drone of La Monte Young and Tony Conrad. The group’s music has the ability to polarize even the hardest avant-garde listeners with what can be interpreted as both an anarchic disrespect or true progressive passion for the notion of a new music. That is to say that there is simply nothing that sounds like Borbetomagus.” – allmusic.com
