“When Phil Elvrum re-emerged as Phil Elverum, under new name Mount Eerie, it was easy to concentrate on what seemed to have vanished. Early standout “The Moan” aside, the feedback blasts, choirs of swelling voices and otherworldly energy that seemed to drive the Microphones’ records forward were pushed to the edges. What remained was Elverum’s soft vocal against delicate, sometimes skeletal arrangements. In retrospect, it is a set full of compelling songs and exquisite sonic detail reminiscent of Mark Hollis’ self-titled solo album. After the blowout of the Microphones’ 5-track “Mount Eerie”, “No Flashlight” sharpens and refines Elverum’s production and songwriting with a series of exquisite miniatures like “(2 Mountains)” and “No Inside, No Out”, alongside “The Universe Is Shown”‘s junkyard elephant stomp.” – allmusic.com
