An electronic echo and synth pioneer Martin Hannett was fascinated from being a child with Dr. Who, science fiction, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire who was one of the innovators at the Radiophonic Workshop. In September 1982, Martin Hannett put together some tapes at Strawberry Studios of his synth and electronic music recordings and named the project his ‘Homage to Delia Derbyshire’.
