Sam Weinberg Trio – Of Peeling Passage: Live At Sisters

In stock

$20.00

Although this is only second album of my trio with Henry Fraser and Jason Nazary (after last year’s “Plays Quarter Notes and Other Notes”), the three of us have been playing together for over a decade, in various configurations.

We’ve been fortunate to have a monthly gig at Sisters in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, where this particular music has really grown and developed. Consequently, it seemed proper – maybe even necessary? – to record our next album there, outside of the confines of a recording studio and in the place that nourished this music.

Although there are a few pieces on this album that appeared on ‘Plays Quarter Notes,’ it strikes me that this record is a more accurate reflection of the group’s identity, our relationship to each other, and to the written material.

I am very pleased to have the great Aram Saroyan’s drawing as the cover of this record – although he’ known chiefly as a poet, his intricate and sui-generis line drawings have been captivating me for years now, and I am very fortunate that he was gracious enough to allow us to use this piece (“Untitled #9”) for the cover. My thanks are also extended to the Francis Gallery in Los Angeles for providing the image itself.
