“Karen Ervin-Pershing (1943–2004) was a pioneering American percussionist and composer, celebrated for her contributions to mallet percussion literature and her role in advancing women in the field. She was particularly active during the 1970s, performing approximately thirty concerts and clinics annually across the United States. Her dedication to the art form led to her induction into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 1994, making her only the second woman to receive this honor. Ervin-Pershing was a prominent soloist and clinician, known for her expressive performances and technical prowess. She was featured on two solo recordings and was a prize-winner in international competitions. In 1976, she joined the faculty at California State University, Northridge, where she mentored numerous students who later embarked on distinguished performing careers.” – mostlymarimba.com
