Colin Wilson – The Outsider (1st Printing)

Only 1 left in stock

$20.00

Colin Wilson in The Outsider laments the human preoccupation with “trivialities and endless pettinesses” which cloud over life’s real significance. The daily round, however, has never distracted this young man from his serious purpose. Son of a Leicester boot and shoe factory worker, Wilson left school at sixteen, having already generated an intense interest in chemistry and atomic physics which had culminated in a 6-volume “attempt to summaries all the scientific knowledge of humanity in a series of essays.” Mr. Wilson’s education continued in classrooms of his own choosing. A chance meeting with T.S. Eliot channeled his interests away from the scientific. His life took on a new compelling he began writing plays, short stories, essays, and poetry. Here is an excerpt from the book others have called remarkable, “The Outsider’s case against society is very clear. All men and women have these dangerous, unnameable impulses, yet they keep up a pretence, to themselves, to others; their respectability, their philosophy, their religion, are all attempts to gloss over, to make look civilized and rational something that is savage, unorganized, irrational.”
