Soliman Gamil was a musicologist and composer who lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt. Born in 1924, his soundtracks for theatre and film have won international awards. His compositions are frequently used for radio and television. The inner sleeve of The Egyptian Music gives great detail about the origins of each track, such as Sufi melodies and Egyptian folk songs. Gamil performs on Rababa instruments, the Sinsimia, lute, kanoun, trumpet, arghoul, tabla, and more.
