Patrick Shiroishi – I Shouldn’t Have To Worry When My Parents Go Outside

Only 1 left in stock

$12.00

“Patrick Shiroishi is a Japanese American multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. Patrick has been involved in a bewildering array of musical projects in the last decade, often focused on blistering free jazz sessions, but also encompassing abstract sound art, intricate math rock, and knotty modern composition pieces. “I Shouldn’t Have To Worry When My Parents Go Outside” marks a startling turning point from Patrick, in the form of elegiac drones and delicate neo-classical melodies, underlined by textured field recordings. This album came about as a result of rising anti-Asian sentiment in the United States during the COVID pandemic, culminating in the tragic murders of eight people in Atlanta on March 16, 2021. Most of the victims were women of Asian descent. From Patrick: “Instead of my usual getting riled up, I felt incredibly sad. Something just hit different and I couldn’t shake it for several days. True to how I process things, I once again turned to music. What you hear below are those feelings…this record is meant to be listened to in one sitting, please consider to digest it in that way. Dedicated to Daoyou Feng, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim, Soon Chung Park, Xiaojie Tan, Delaina Ashley Yaun, Yong Ae Yue & Paul Andre Michels.””
